This week’s challenge asks us to “be a tour guide in your local area”!
Flying into Sydney is always spectacular because of the harbour. Up to the middle of the last century, it was also notable for its predominant red terracotta tiled roofs. The building fashion of the 1950-1960 period was houses built of red texture bricks. Another fashion, a bit later, was that mission brown was used everywhere, for trim, guttering and the like.
Now, everyone seems to want to go grey! In this area, perfectly functional houses built in the 1950-1965 period, are being replaced with bigger homes. Grey rendered walls, grey trim, grey fences. You name it, grey everywhere! At least it’s not mission brown!
These properties were all photographed within a 1 kilometre radius of a northern Sydney suburb, around 18km from the CBD.
