Mount Macedon, at 615 metres, is one of the highest points around Melbourne. Located 64 km from the CBD, there are views towards the city. An imposing monument, in memory of those who died serving in World War I, stands near the summit.
Out of respect, most visitors take it all in, in silence

At Villers Bretonneux on the Somme, France, there’s a huge cross with a sword superimposed on it, the same as the one you show here.
Interesting similarity, Trish. The original cross at Mt Macedon was erected in 1934, ahead of the one at Villers Bretonneux. The elements took their toll and it became unsafe. This replacement dates from 1995.
What a beautiful spot, looks like it would encourage silence, something that the designers of the space probably considered.
It is a lovely spot, Amy. The massed planting of hydrangeas in an Australian Native bush setting comes as a surprise!
Nice place to gather your thoughts

Absolutely.
