Weekly Photo Challenge : Selfie

I know I am not the only challenged one to adopt this approach! This photo was taken mid winter (July) 2013 in Newcastle, New South Wales, when my wife and I took a short break.

My second contribution is also unoriginal. It was take a couple of years ago at our favourite resort in Palm Cove, FNQ. (FNQ is Far North Queensland, the unofficial sub region of the state of Queensland)

Weekly Photo Challenge : Family

Today we discovered we have an extended family, about which we were previously unaware!  My wife wondered why our unused old watering can was rather heavy! It seems a possum has decided to make a home here rather than in the local bush.

UPDATE – 21st January – With no trail of destruction, our possum has moved on. He/she must have found more suitable accommodation. As long as it isn’t in our roof, we can be quite relaxed.

Footnote : Although they create a nuisance in the garden with their passion for roses, possums are a protected species in New South Wales. You can read more about this nocturnal species here. We will not disturb this one as long as it wants to make its home here.

Weekly Photo Challenge – Beginning

The town of New Italy was established in 1882 by early Italian settlers to this part of Australia. One can only imagine this new beginning for those who travelled to Australia at that time. We cannot fail to be impressed by their resolve and determination to make a new life so far from their origins.

Nothing remains of the town itself, but a Museum has been set up to commemorate the life of these pioneers, and their contribution to the district.
