A Jetstar A320 heads towards Sydney Airport through the murky sky. More than 10 fires are classed as extreme (red indicators on map). The closest to Sydney CBD are 50km north, 40km west and 60km south.

The cameras don’t depict the sun as red as the eye sees it, but the picture is similar. All the fires still burn, but have been downgraded. Dedicated fire crews, including from interstate and a contingent from Canada, fight to save properties.

The fires still burn – yellow markers signify “watch and act”, blue signify “under control”.
[Since fires commenced this season in September, four lives have been lost, 680 homes have been destroyed, as well as over 2000 outbuildings]
Reporting in for Six Word Saturday
Sydney, December 2019
We had the smoke for a while last weekend, but photos from Sydney show me how you all must be suffocating with it. Come back rain, we need you. (6 words)
Just too much, day after day (6). Really curbing my exercise now, Trish (6) 🙁
Our house isn’t airtight and tonight the wind from the east has brought the smoke. And fear with it. Hopefully not embers.
? the Braidwood fire?
Take care!
Thank you. We’re trying not to breathe!
😮
What a mess we have made of our world! I hope you get the needed rain soon. Take care, Ken
Thank you, Debbie. We’re grateful our house is airtight ?
How frightening to live with constant threat. Dramatic images though.
Fortunately we are not on the edge of bush land, but we have many friends who are. Thank you for your thoughts, Margaret
so sorry about the fires – thoughts and prayers for all
Thank you, Yvette. It is so stressful for so many affected.
I know – and just makes me feel ugh
Let’s hope that the rain comes, or that the firefighters manage to extinguish these fires.
Thanks, Phil. It is the rain we need.
Thank you for this post. I am in Sydney as well and am constantly amazed and shocked by the severity of the smoke and the danger of the bushfires. I have recently published an article on my blog about the smoke in Sydney. If you have time, it would be great if you could read my post as I would be interested to hear your thoughts! Thanks 🙂
The orange suns in orange skies are spooky, aren’t they? I saw the moon last week (the clouds and smoke parted long enough!) and it was also orange — not on the horizon, but overhead. Simply wrong.
Too true, Karen. We’ve had more than enough already and there’s still more to come. Cheers, Ken
prayers with you all
Thank you, Yvette. Another smoky day today 🙁
