Just kidding – needed the zoom lens!
Many cruises take in tropical Queensland. For those wanting to explore Cairns and the tropical hinterland, Cairns itself is not accessible to the larger ships. Instead they moor off Yorkeys Knob. Passengers are taken ashore in tenders, and join their sightseeing tours by coach from there.
Palm Cove is about 15km by road, maybe 12km as the crow flies, from Yorkeys Knob. We thought we spotted a ship, and used the camera to identify it!! Later we drove to Yorkeys Knob to observe the logistics. The featured shot at top resembles the “naked eye view” from Palm Cove.
Yorkeys Knob got its name from George Lawson, a Yorkshire-born (b.1839), Cairns-based fisherman (d.1907).
Out and about: Six Word Saturday
Once I knew to look for a ship… I could spot it! At first I was looking for the sun on the horizon… I was too literal, perhaps!?
Lol! I missed that angle, Jane ?
Would be a bit of swim to get there.
We timed the transfer : 20 minutes from shore to ship!
Wow.
It’s a fine shot, that first one, Ken. I’ve got a bit of a down on cruise ships. Never fancied life in a giant sardine tin, but I’ve never tried it so I shouldn’t judge. 🙂 🙂
We loved our river cruise with 126 guests. Not sure about 2500+ either, Jo!
And what a zoom lens you have. But you did spot the cruise ship, so your eyes are pretty good! 😉
True. The specs help with the vision, and I had to race back to the hotel to get the ‘proper’ camera – one occasion when the iPhone didn’t quite get the distance LOL
So huge, so big.
And you’ve got good eyesight! 😀
Thank you, Mlle. I still prefer trains ? xx
