In a post on 31st March this year, evidence was shown that the Gymea Lily at the bottom of the garden, was to flower this year! Β One definitely needs to “look up” to see the flower from ground level: 3.66 metres (over 12 feet) in fact. To capture its full effect, higher ground and the zoom lens were needed!
For Patti’s Challenge, Look Up
A future post will show its development over the six months since the March post.
Strange (and rare ?) flower !
Not so rare, Phil, but most home gardeners are too impatient to wait 7-9 years for a flower!
I can understand that ! π
Wow, that is one tall flower!!!
Indeed, Tina. An architectural beacon from nature!
Wow what a wonderful plant!
It is pretty amazing!
I saw one of these blooming at a Botanical garden once. It was such a big deal that it was on their website, so congratulations on having the patience to wait for this to bloom.
Thank you, Amy. Needless to say, were really excited as it developed ?
I think you now have abundant evidence Ken. With such blooming evidence you can walk tall among the the accused (the-non-for-ever-wait-gardeners)
Thank you, Abrie. Walking tall beside a plant twice my height ?
π
Excellent choice – and rare as well!
Thank you, Lena. Certainly rare in your hemisphere?
Wow!
Now this is something I don’t see everyday π
There are a few around here but not common in domestic gardens.
Great to see it flower. I’m glad you’re more patient than I am
?
Oh Ken – you knew it would flower and it did!
I love the far away view and the close up –
so nice
π
Thank you, Yvette. Had to show the stalk as well as the bloom π
π
