A day is spent cruising Fiordland.
Milford Sound is the best known of the fiords on New Zealand’s south west ‘corner’. It is accessible by road. Milford Sound is the wettest place in New Zealand, with mean annual rainfall of 6411 mm (252 inches)! Entering around 07:00 am, we were very fortunate!
Doubtful Sound is accessed by entering Thompson Sound, while later Dusky Sound is entered via Breaksea Sound and the Acheron Passage. These pristine waters are only accessible by sea or air.Β

Impressive photos!
Thank you, Marion. The fiords are very photogenic ?
I read “fjord” and of course, I thought Norway. The first monochrome seemed to confirm this. The colour ones gave rise to doubt… But even on the other side of the world rain and fjords look apparently very scenic and beautiful.
Iβm guessing the Anglicised βfiordβ is so we pronounce βfjordβ properly ? I have been fortunate to visit Norway also, and these gifts of nature are all beautiful.
Very nice place !
Might be spoilt by too many cruise ships ??
But it’s thanks to one of them that you could do these photos. π
True. We had been to Milford Sound previously by road and local cruise. It rained, of course.
Glorious – the place and the images
Thank you, Debbie. Unspoilt nature survives.
So beautiful, Ken! π π
It is worth a visit, Jo xx
I’d love to! π π
