“It’s grand to be a lot of things in this fair southern land
But if the Lord would send us rain, that would indeed be grand”
– from the poem “Its Grand”, A B ‘Banjo’ Paterson, The Bulletin, May 1902
Every day the same, zero rainfall for the last 28 days. Yesterday, the city introduced water restrictions for the first time in ten years. Relatively, we are well off compared to our graziers out west. In fact, much of this wide brown land is in severe drought. Yet, Paterson wrote those words 117 years ago!
Staying dry with Six Word Saturday
28 days without rain is normal where I live. I tell new Australians that it rains frequently on the coast, but now I’ll tell them drought can happen even there.
Indeed, Trish. We often miss the ‘coastal showers’! The forecast this morning, was ‘clearing showers’ but there were no showers to clear 🙁
🙁
Wow, hopefully you get some rain soon.
Thank you, Amy. One of our tanks (used for the garden) is empty, the other declining. We expect to see a lot of brown lawns around Sydney well before summer!
We often forget that rain is a richness…
So true, Phil. Except maybe when your subject is on a beach 😉
